Where is the summer? Grey skies and rain have replaced the normal blue skies for this time of the year. The rivers are rising and yet more rain is on its way. Here in central Europe we have seen the flood waters reach record levels and we are grateful we live on a hill!
It has been pretty amazing to watch how people rally together in a time of need. They put their differences aside and unite together to protect their homes. It is interesting how sometimes when crises hit families this is not the case but rather they blame each other, fight each other and contribute to the destruction.
The concept of families working together under pressure isn’t a new one. The book of Nehemiah reminds us that we need to fight for our families and work together.
Nehemiah 4:13,14
Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’
As expats living under the pressures of conflicting cultures and communication difficulties are you pulling together or fighting each other? Purpose to work together rather than letting the circumstances flood in and overwhelm you.
