Depleted Energy

Running out of steam means to suddenly lose the energy or interest to continue doing what you are doing. The big question that races through our minds is “Why bother”? This is true of the expat who is tired of fighting against bureaucracy or the trailing spouse unpacking from yet another move or the couple who are tired from a long day of work.

Fuel Your Relationship

It is also possible to run out of steam in relationships. In the same way that the old-fashioned steam engines needed fuel to keep going so do our marriages. It amazes me when couples seem surprised that their relationship has stopped growing and flourishing yet they have done nothing to feed it.

While there are many things you can do to improve your marriage all of them, require action and energy. When your energy levels are depleted, and you are both operating in survival mode, it ‘s hard to find energy to draw on. The essential fuel you need is prayer.

Pray Continually

“The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray. “

– Samuel Chadwick

1 Thessalonians 5:17 is a very short verse with a message that hits home for me, it says “Pray continually”.  Is prayer as natural as breathing to you? Is it an ongoing conversation with God? Prayer changes us from running out of steam to being able to go full steam ahead.
